Just months before the new Californian General will be elected, its current leader, Aaron Lane, bids his last farewell to the Humanes. Their plan backfired on them, when a seventeen-year-old Humane girl, Kalista Young, puts herself between the General and the bullet.

Truths and conspiracies are unraveled one by one. Kalista discovers her true identity and power, a power that was thought to have died with its instigators, the ELEGIANS. She discovers what truly happened during the Third World War. She also discovers the reason behind the creation of the two cities, and why it was so important.

As each second passes by, her efforts to find the perpetrators of the assassination is slowly becoming a wild goose chase. Alongside the General's two sons, she continues to gather information about their state's history, about the Elegians, about the Assassins, and everyone involved with them.
