Isabelle Bradley has a hard life. Her parents are abusive; and because of this she can't seem to focus on school, mostly because she's always asleep. And, because of an incident with her high school Spanish teacher's son, and the constant bruises from her parents, she has also been labeled as the wh.ore of the town, by both her peers and the adults around her - especially her parents who only feed the fire of lies. Deciding to go where no one knows her, she runs away, attempting to hitchhike from Colorado to Florida and live with her aunt.
Enter Lake Richards. Nineteen. Alone on the road, just the way he wants it. He's on his way to Texas, hoping to find a home that might fill a void in his damaged heart. When he picks up a cute blonde off the side of the road in Kansas, he only intends to take her as far as he has promised. He doesn't need anyone with him, when he wants people to stick around they tend to leave. But as this feisty hitch hiker opens up to him and begins to care about his well being, he might let himself want her to stick around for a little longer than 1,100 miles.
