It was the longest 3 minutes of Melek's and Kida's life. The bow in Melek's hand trembled, he felt his hands go numb towards the end of his song. This song, back home he played it all the time, it was committed to muscle memory. But right now as he played for his life, his muscles burned giving up. His arms felt heavy cradling his bass. He couldn't hear the rhythm of the song over his fast beating heart. Melek thought of Kira his new partner. He didn't dare to look at the other side of the stage where her body responded to the music he was making. It was her dance that saved him the last round. And he couldn't help but wonder if her dancing would work again. Melek came to the last measure, shutting his eyes trying to slow the song down hold out the last note, anything to delay the inevitable response from the crowd. It was them who decided if this were to be the pair's last song. At the corner of his eye Melek saw Kida's in her final pose. Her feet bore pointe shoes and she stood on her toes. By the look of her shoulder's heaving up and down she had exhausted herself. Melek felt tears welling his eyes.
The audience gifted them with a thunderous applause and the pair sighed letting out a breath of relief, He picked up his bow and tucked it under his arm lifting his bass trying his best to exit the stage. He didn't notice how Kida stayed frozen refusing to make a move. A low hum held over the audience. Melek didn't realize it at first but they were chanting.
"...Her." It sounded like.
Melek faced Kida looking at her face tears streaming down her cheeks a blank expression masked her noticeable fear.
The chanting grew louder.
"Kill Her."
