Euphranor Lakatos, a sixteen year old boy living on the streets in the bustling city of Kupet, has made an unwanted name for himself as a criminal celebrity. Everyday he scours about for food, causes havoc in nearly every public area imaginable, and yet is never captured by the police. But even if his life is an unhappy one, he's used to it and manages to get by. Until, that is, he begins having severe hallucinations and receiving threatening messages. As the dark secret from his past threatens to catch up with him, Euphranor finds himself doing with new urgency what he has always done best: running away.

Meanwhile, a seventeen year old boy named Kadri, trained in sorcery, is sent to hunt down and destroy the irregular energy sources emanating from the city. Having never left the temple in which he was raised, Kadri is forced to seek assistance and ends up running into Euphranor. Reluctantly they agree to help each other, but will they reach their goals before it's too late?
