Luis Alfredo Baena - Business Executive for Canacol Energy

Luis Alfredo Baena is an extremely educated, experienced, and skillful business executive currently working as Director and VP of Business Development for Canacol Energy, a company he helped found in Bogotá, Colombia to take advantage of the country's growing hydrocarbons market. Baena is also a medical doctor and a former government official.

Luis Alfredo Baena got his start in business as the Chief Executive Officer of Inversiones Keno in Colombia. Dr. Baena had spent a little over two years in the Colombian government in Bogotá working as the country's Secretary of Health and Secretary of Government. He was the Chief Executive Officer of Inversiones Keno for two years until he returned to the public sector as the Welfare Commissioner. After his four-year period as Welfare Commissioner, Dr. Baena returned to the private sector.

Luis Alfredo Baena moved to Miami for a year to be an advisor and consultant for the law firm Vásquez and Hess LLP. Dr. Baena also went back to school to complete his second of three Master's degrees on top of his medical degree. He earned a Master's degree in Public Affairs in 1997 from a program between the Universidad Externado de Colombia and Columbia University, and Master's degree in International Affairs in Finance and Business from Columbia University in New York in 2000. These two degrees go along with his first Master's degree in Political Science from the Universidad de los Andes, which he earned in 1990.

Luis Alfredo Baena returned to Colombia from New York City and Miami in 2001. He set up a telecommunications business called Insualim S.A., which he managed as Chairman for four years.
