Sone Kyou has lived in a small village throughout his life. His work consisted of travelling to the local market every Friday to sell some trinkets made of wood and the occasional leftovers used for fires. He was a simple man who did simple things, nothing more and nothing less. On one Friday on a sunny winter day, Kyou came across a crane stuck in a trap made for rodents. Blood was soaked up in the snow as the crane was wailing in pain, he let the bird go and waved as it flew away into the sky. Little did he know that the crane would come back to him in a winter storm later that week at his doorstep. Deep inside he knew it was the crane, but when the young women stared back into his eyes he hoped that she was just a regular woman who walked down the isles in the local marketplace. This book retells the folktale of The Crane Wife and The Grateful Crane, Japanese lore that depicts love, sacrifice, and a struggle for what's right. Cover by Jody157
