Lumaki si Amelia na palaging sinusunod ang kanyang mga magulang hanggang sa nalaman niyang nakipagkasunduan ang kanyang mga magulang sa mga Matias na naghahari ng kaharian sa kabilang pulo na ipapakasal nila ang kanilang bunsong si Amelia sa nagiisa nilang anak na tagapagmana ng kanilang kaharian.

Bago ang araw ng kanilang kasal ay tumakas si Amelia at nagtungo sa kung saan. Ang nasa isip niya lang ng gabing iyon ay ang makaalis at makatakas sa lugar na iyon. Hindi niya na inisip ang mga maiiwan niya doon at mabilis na pinatakbo ang puting kabayong sinasakyan niya papunta sa kagubatan na hindi nino mang nangahas na pasokin.
