A brother and his younger sister are orphaned when no older than 7 by an unknown disease that even killed some nobility. The brother goes to the castle to ask for a room while the sister goes to pick berries for them to eat.
The King noticed the boy at the gate and for whatever reason, decides to adopt him. The boy, afraid that his sister wouldn't be accepted, keeps her a secret and sneaks her into the castle where as he is trained to be a guard to the Prince, teaches her how to hide in the shadows of the rafters in the vaulted ceilings, forever sentencing her to watch the nobility and fear that one day someone will look up and see her.
Now she is 19. The king who adopted her brother has died and the Prince has taken his place as King. Many things are changing with the new, benevolent King, but she never thought that her secret would be one of them.
