To be 'claimed' is when a woman of the age of 18 is chosen by a male the age of 20 to be his wife. They get no say in it. Woman are not equal to men and are seen as incapable of simple tasks. Bellamy Blake hates his society. Especially because his little sister might soon be apart of it. He is 20 and it is his year to chose a 'life partner'. As they call it. He was less that excited. As most of the men were. He wanted a woman to want to be with him not have to be.

10 months. 10 months was enough to numb the pain. Bellamy hated it, hated how the pain lessened because his sister deserved more. She deserved the world, and he couldn't give her it. He hated himself for it, for trying to forget, but he knew that he would shatter if he tried to sort through it.
