Marianne Allen lives on a plantation in southern Georgia. The year is 1856. Since he is owns a plantation, Marianne's father sees it ok to keep slaves. Marianne has four sisters and two brothers. All which love to hassle and boss around the slaves. But Marianne thinks it's wrong to put people to work like this. One day, she decides to make up a plan. A plan to run away. She won't be traveling alone. She has six other slaves going with her. All of which are thirteen and younger. What will happen to them? Will they make it to the safety of the free North?
