Marianne Allen lives on a plantation in southern Georgia. The year is 1856. Since he is owns a plantation, Marianne's father sees it ok to keep slaves. Marianne has four sisters and two brothers. All which love to hassle and boss around the slaves. But Marianne thinks it's wrong to put people to work like this. One day, she decides to make up a plan. A plan to run away. She won't be traveling alone. She has six other slaves going with her. All of which are thirteen and younger. What will happen to them? Will they make it to the safety of the free North? Jack: Book 3 in the Trilogy

Book 3 opens with Jack and his companions in control of the slave ship, The Helena, renamed The Midnight Raider, having tricked the pirates and slave traders that were chasing them after they stole the ship. Despite his friend Jeremy's reluctance to go along with him, Jack invites the captain to help them and the 110 now-freed slaves to sail back to Senegal and Guinea in West Africa to return the ex-slaves home. They live in Florida with their mom and dad. They were one big happy family till one day their father went on a business trip where his drug addiction started up again. Nevada was raped by one of her fathers "friends" at 14 years old. Later on Nevada's father George was seriously ill that the doctors thought he would die. As the kids grow up they learn many life lessons. One is that being loyal saves lives. Two is that people in the world change for better or worse .
