The land of Ithwon is a utopia of bejeweled cities and peaceful stability.  Within the walls of its radiant capital, heir-apprentice Alkanion Ephenor studies under King Pedilas to prepare for his coronation.
But when Alkanion is thrust onto the throne because of one horrible decision, he must defend Ithwon from an ever-growing threat to the west; a threat he himself created.  As Ithwon enters its darkest era, he must guide his people through murky waters and fend off terrors that issue from home and abroad.  He must take responsibility and become the leader his people need him to be--or else become the monster they fear the most.
