Alfred Browning is a quiet country boy caught up in World War I. He's a terrible soldier; he can't shoot straight or disarm a man to save his life and is terrible on the battlefield. A gun wound to the head sends him to the hospital, where he meets Harry Partridge, the army doctor. A close knit friendship forms between them, but the war is still raging, slowly dragging Alfred away. But he can't help wonder: is there more to Harry than meets the eye?
