"Have you ever head the tale of the scorpion and the frog?"
"...No. Please care to tell me."
He grinned, his face lit up with his strange sinister smile. "Once upon a time... There was a frog. He was trying to get across a river. The scorpion, who was traveling by, offered a ride on his back. "How can I trust you? You're a scorpion" Asked the frog. The scorpion replied, "If I sting you, we would both die." The frog, after sitting and thinking or a moment, agreed.
"Half way across the river, the frog felt a sharp pain in his back. He looked at the scorpion and asked "...Why?" And the Scorpion replied, "I cannot help it. I'm a scorpion.""
The man grinned. His story seemed to excite him in a sadistic way.
The detective stood up, seemingly annoyed by his glee. "I hope you're happy, scorpion."
