You know, the smallest thing can change your life. In the blink of an eye, something happens by chance, when you least expect it... Sets you on a course that you never planned... Into a future you never imagined. Where will it take you? That's the journey of our lives. Our search for the light. But sometimes... Finding the light means you must pass through the deepest darkness. At least, that's how it was for me. I, Hope Greene, am eighteen years old. People say that I've a bright future ahead and I'm supposed to be out at the moment, laughing with my friends to some random joke and bonding over some superfluous topic; but here I am - sad and scared, with a paper and a pen and a rebellious thought of tearing the paper apart any minute. The only thing that keeps me from doing it is the mug of coffee sitting next to the window, the vapours breathing against the glass. Michael Styles, the new exchange student, has soon captured the heart of the entire school through his caring personality and unbelievably excellent manners, not to mention his charms and good looks. He is friendly with both the factions of the school - the unpopular ones and the popular ones. That's why, the former heart throb of the school, Jason Marlow, was losing his hard-earned fame and was extremely insecure of the new student. What happens when the caring, friendly, loved-by-all Michael falls for Hope, who has shut down the world around her to keep herself safe? What happens when light meets dark? Will the light be able to brighten the darkness or will the darkness engulf the light?

"Would you like to dance?" the boy asks me. I stare deep into his blue eyes, but I can't figure out who he is. He's tall with dark hair and the brightest blue eyes I've ever seen. I know everyone at this school, but with his features hidden behind his mask I can't tell who he is. "Sure, I would love to." Did I just say that? I agreed to dance with a random boy who I don't know. He takes my hand and leads me to the dance floor. We dance for a few songs and then he asks me, "Would you like to take a walk? I know the perfect place." I nod and he pulls me behind him off the dance floor. We leave the hotel and start walking down a little path. At the end of the path I notice a little fountain surrounded by candles. I wonder if he set this up. We walk over to the fountain and we sit down on the edge. "I had a wonderful time tonight," says the guy. He reaches to his face and removes his mask. I recognize him immediately. How did I not know it before? *** Carter Bennett has managed to survive her first 3 years of high school. Everything has been amazing... for the most part. She had her life completely planned out.
