"I've always thought that I would die because of old age. I guess most people do though. They dream of falling asleep one night and never waking up. Never feel the pain of breathing their last breath. They go cold while being wrapped up in the comforting blankets they've had since they could remember. I guess what I did could be considered suicide. But really, I was just trying to save myself. I didn't mean to let the ledge of the building slip between my pale fingers. I didn't mean to be chased down the dark downtown night. I didn't mean to get involved. I swear I didn't." When Zoey Johnson is walking home from a simple Taco Bell run after a couple of drinks she stumbles across 19 year old Jake Miller. She should have known that stopping a fight going on in a dark alley was not a good idea. The fact that there was an exchange of a brown paper bag made her decision to stop the fight more reckless than it already was. Now tangled up in the life of drugs, prostitution and an endless amount of death threats, Zoey finds herself in the arms of Jake to protect her.

He grabbed a bottle of some sort and smiled. "Nighty night." He whispered. He sprayed the substance all over me until I blacked out. -- 16 year old Cathy moves from a small Rhode Island town to the big Austin, Texas.
