Val was left on the doorsteps of a fire station in Tønsberg Norway. She was left with nothing but a blanket and note that just said "My name is Val, please take good care of me".
Val grew up being able to outsmart everyone around her, and by the age of 15 she graduated from high school, having already started her bachelors degree. She was able to graduate from college at 18, when most people were graduating high school. However, she wasn't done yet, she jumped right into trying to get her doctorate at Culver University.
While she was finishing up her final year of schooling in 2011, she was assisting her mentor, Dr Erik Selvig, and Jane Foster study weather anomaly's in the desert of New Mexico, while there, she met Thor, the "God of Thunder", but something astronomical happened. And that is where the story of Val starts.

"Loki, pleas-" My plea was cut shot as a burst of energy and the distinctive clang of metal on metal pushed me over into the god of mischief. We stumbled backwards until I laid on his chest and he grunted from the sudden impact. "Thor." I cursed under my breath. "Sorry..." I began lifting myself off of his body. I narrowed my gaze and quickly stood to rush into Thor's aid, ignoring his dejected expression. I was about to leap off the cliff side when I heard four words that had me frozen in my place unlike anything my powers could do.
