Ever since the unsolved deaths of her parents, Allora Ravencroft meticulously went above and beyond to make sure that she had led a picture-perfect life. She was best known for her good grades and charismatic popularity. With her senior year of college only just a few months away, she had big plans in mind for the last summer vacation of her college career. Her bucket list of post-final exam cocktails and tan lines is thrown out the window when she is attacked by a terrifying creature made of shadow.

That single event sparks a whirlwind of unanswered questions and untold secrets for Allora as she is whisked away to Cromwell Academy. As if being stuck at school in the summer couldn't get any worse, she comes to the realization that Cromwell Academy doesn't provide its students with your run-of-the-mill algebra classes and chess clubs.
