After his girlfriend, Dawn, broke up with him, Karter decides to take the day off from school to go search an abandoned house he discovered before. In the abandoned house he finds books. A lot of books. 
Making regular trips to the house to read the books, Karter realizes that there is something weird about the books. He also realizes something mysterious about the past owner of the building. While investigating the clues left behind in the books of the owner, Karter has to deal with his day to day struggles: homework, sports commitments, and getting Dawn back before her final drama performance.
