At a time where a great war had stricken their land, do two fated souls meet.

Charles Thomson at the tender age of 13, lost his entire family in the war and is left wandering around looking for someone who could help. He comes across 10 year old, Rebecca Whitmore, an orphan just like him.
They make a vow to take care of each other to the end but things don't exactly go to plan.

Charles seeks a free life, make something of himself, all on his own while Rebecca agrees to be placed in an orphanage. Charles promises he will come look for her as soon as he can. And she holds that promise dear but too many years pass....
Will he still keep his promise or has he simply forgotten about her?

They learn various lessons and extremely diverse ways of life.
Eight years later they cross paths.
