Natalie Abernathy was born into a world where the lines on your skin tell everyone who you are. They appear like tattoos and change with every choice you make, every person you meet.

Only one line remains constant. Your love line. The only colored line on the human's skin, a blood red mixed in with the black.

Natalie's world is consumed with The Sickness, the next stage in human evolution that can strike you when you are fourteen. Or doesn't.

If you survive The Sickness, you become one of the Elite, faster, stronger, smarter than the humans who don't get The Sickness. The Elite's lines are colorful, beautiful in their own way. A mixture of deepest purples, the darkest blues, and dominate greens. They cover the black lines the Elite were given at birth, rewriting their destinies forever.

As Natalie comes to find, the Elite aren't what they seem. The Sickness is not what it seems. Her heart is broken by the loss of her best friend Cecil McCourt, who succumbed to The Sickness days before their shared fifteenth birthday.

Her friends surround her, trying to fill the void left by Cecil. Time moved on, carrying Natalie along with it. Now it's three years later, everyone's senior year. Days before school starts, Natalie befriends the new boy in town, Union Davidson. Cecil (now known as Cyrus) is quick to warn her away from him. At first she thinks it's a trick but as things start to happen, Natalie finds herself trapped between the thing she wants most in the world and something else quite darker than she imagined.

A reflection. Do you like yours, love yours or hate yours? There's many people in this world who dislike theirs, not because of the physicality that they see in a mirror, but because they know what's lurking behind the eyes that stare. So much can be seen in yourself from your own pair of eyes, things that others don't seem to see. Do you know why that is? That's because no one knows you better than you know yourself. A pair of eyes could seem so kind, warm and innocent to the world, but only yourself could know the true darkness behind them. There's one person in this world who knows exactly what I'm talking about. He knows the infuriating, angering feeling of the painful suffering he experiences when his own eyes meet his reflection's. Deadly, severe, menacing: is what he sees. Everyone who looks into them simply see a bright pair of ocean eyes. Blue. That's all they see. But only himself knows he's drowning in the tidal waves of their deep ocean. And no one cares enough to notice, to help, or to save. Until her. She used to think fire was more murderous than ice. Little did she know, that would all change at first glance. She saw the eyes, she noticed their blue, she stared for a second too long, and now she knows that there's no going back. He'll claim her. ~If I take a step away from him, he takes a step closer to me. If I run, he'll find his way back.~ ~I'm trying my goddamned hardest to not act on the ache I'm feeling to place my lips on hers, just to have a little taste, because I don't want to appear as some sex-driven teenage boy who just wants to claim her body. Because I don't. I want to claim her heart.~ *Mature content: Strong language, aggressive behaviour, sexual content etc.* Note: Don't skip past the prologue. A bit of the dialogue or description in the first half of the book may seem slightly immature; I'll have to edit that when I get the chance. Started: 31/08/18 Completed: 02/04/19

New Country. New School. New Friends. New Life. New Beginning. Fresh Start. Clean Slate. Start Over. Have you ever wanted to move away and start all over again? That’s all Vanessa has ever wanted. She wants to move away from the life she has grown to hate and start her life all over again. Bullies. Abuse. Depression. Self-Hatred. Weak. Useless. Pathetic. Lost. Feeling unwanted and under-appreciated aren’t new feelings for young Vanessa Bell, living in constant fear and worry isn’t either. It can take just a few words to bring someone’s self-esteem plummeting for the ground and add a few bruises here and there and all self-worth will be lost. Feeling numb from all the pain is usually a good thing but when you’ve been hurt so much to the point where you don’t feel anything anymore. You’ll often find yourself asking “What is the point?” or “Why do I even bother?” Maybe Vanessa will find her way, maybe in a place called Sydney, maybe with the help of a boy named Luke. When Vanessa chooses to “Start All Over” maybe she’ll find it’s the best decision she’s ever made. {Warning: Will contain triggering thoughts and action and involves sensitive topics like depression, death, suicide and abuse} **This is very poorly written because when I wrote it I was 13 so please read knowing that I was a very dumb 13 year-old or read later when I've finished rewriting which is a slow process but I'm getting there, sorry** UNDERGOING EDITING COPYRIGHT © 2012-2013 CUDDLINGHEMMINGS
