Clarys mother died when she bound herself to Valentine then killed herself.
The Clave have found Clary and taken her and Simon away to Alicante. They are both due to start the academy but Clary is still grieving her mothers death. What will happen to Clary when she works with the top Shadowhunter teens in the world.
