I spent two years living in Japan, in the northern-most prefecture of Hokkaido, as part of the Japanese Exchange and Teaching (JET) Programme. The program, ostensibly, hires English teaching assistants to work in public elementary, junior high, and high schools, but the project's stated goal is to drive the internationalization of Japan through introducing students to different peoples from different cultures.
The goal is for this to not be THAT Japan story, all about sushi and beer and how backwards the Japanese are to an insensitive foreigner. When I elected to start writing a Japanblog, Gaijin Desu Ne, back in 2009, I was determined that it would not be THAT JET blog. I have no idea if I succeeded, but some of the writing from that blog will drive this book. I have no idea if I can succeed in writing Not THAT Japan Story, but I'll try to write the Japan book that I'd like to read, which is equal parts lovely words and interesting Japanese annecdotes.

American Impostor
This is a memoir about my life between 2015 and 2020, where I was part of an international crime ring and my subsequent arrest and imprisonment in a 3rd world country. Here's the synopsis: When I was 27, I started taking American and British University entrance exams for foreign nationals for money. I worked with an agency that paid for my flights, my accommodation, and sent me a forged passport to gain entry to the exams. I was paid a lot per exam. I had an advantage over other test-takers-- English was my native language and I could travel to countries that were inaccessible to others with my American passport. I was able to score perfect on the exams I took, but on some tests like the GRE, I would under-score on purpose to avoid detection. I used the money to travel the world and live the life I'd always dreamed of. I'd never enjoyed my home city of Chicago due to perceptions of my race, and I'd found that I was much happier abroad. I lived and learned about the world and myself in Tokyo, Shanghai, Bangkok, Seoul, Hong Kong, Paris, Berlin, Cairo, Istanbul, and more. Those were the best years of my life. When I was 30, the ACT sent a detective team to hunt me down in Thailand. I was sentenced to 18 months in prison. I started writing this memoir wedged between hot bodies on a makeshift pencil made from rubber bands and lead. We lived in overcrowded prisons where we slept on top of each other, often sharing parasites. The food was just leftover parts of animals that the prison could buy cheaply: pig fat with the bristles still connected, chicken heads and feet. **UPDATE** SORRY FOR UNPUBLISHING EVERYTHING AND REPUBLISHING! .. again. i went thru a crisis with thinking the writing wasn't good enough but i realized this is literally wattpad.... its okay.... a series based off of a group of students who meet in their 2nd year of highschool, -- intentionally lowercase. I work on computer and phone so sometimes it might uppercase certain letters but for consistency it'll be proofread for that stuff
The Return of the Hyuga (Nightly's continuation)
This is a continuation of RenRae26's story "The return of The Hyuga". They discontinued it(I think) and I really enjoyed the story so I decided to continue it putting my own style into it, trying to make it seem more different than RenRae26's own work. Of course I'll implemented the different povs and how they ended each chapter with suspense but i'll try to make it more "NightlyProduction"(whatever that means I only got two published stories) The main difference of the bat is how I'm shifting the focus of Hinata being the main character. Im turning it into more of a "what if-" situation/story and not a Hinata story(how her leaving and coming back changed how everyone sees her and how different they are as characters). Don't know if that's a mistake or a good thing(what the fans of Renrae26's original story want)but that's what I want to do with this story. The Hawaiian Special Forces
This is the story I'm writing for NaNoWriMo 2015. The goal: 50,000 word RAW draft written entirely in the month of November. Unlike most of my stories, which I prefer to edit before posting, I'm actually going to post updates to this at the end of each day in chapter-sized chunks. The idea behind this story is that a terrorist attack in the near future causes the US to go hyper-isolationist, to the point that it abandons Hawaii and Alaska to fend for themselves. They do, forming the United Pacific States (maybe with a few other island countries). Hawaii then goes on to turn itself into the new world police with stealthy, genetically modified cyber-soldiers. I'm marking this story as mature because there will be action scenes, and probably some interesting perspectives on nudity and relationships. I'm not planning on anything explicit, but this won't be a kids book. Validated winner at 50,040 words!Complete
