After The Phosphorescence, the world is broken up into groups. There are those who weep and fall apart under the cruel pressure of the new world, and under the law of the new leaders called Elites. They are considered dead before they even take their last breath, because of how unresponsive they have become. Of course, there are the Elites, who are the new leaders apart of The Movement. These leaders have taken this opportunity to take high ranks in society, all ruled by The King. The Elite promise the Dwellers the rebuilding of countries and cities all starting with New Carolina, that are safe from the Insane and wild creatures. There are also the Dwellers, who are those who decide to stay where they are. The majority of those who have survived consist of Dwellers. They to attempt to salvage whatever they can of their previous lives, also meaning that they abide by the new laws. The Dwellers are most liked by the Elites because of their cooperation. There are unfortunately, the Insane. The Insane are those who have been hit by The Phosphorescence head on. They've become monsters, their brains turned to mush and their only need being the taste of blood. Most preferably, human blood. If you are bitten by an Insane, there is a 99% probability of death. Then of course, there are those who run.

I'm working every waking hour. You'd think that smuggling would pay better, but nothing has been easy since the war. I can't go on like this. I need someone to take the load off my shoulders. I need a slave. --- Robert has had nothing handed to him in life. Everything is a battle, and the threat of arrest is always looming. He buys a slave, and as far as he's concerned, she's nothing but an extra set of hands. But as time goes on, she worms her way into his heart.
