(By Spot Girl) An Excerpt: Winter, 1894.

A small boy scurries along the sidewalk. His hair is the color of the mud his work boots splatter on the pavement. It snowed last night, but the cool white blanket that settled over the city has already turned an unapealing shade of beige.
Welcome to New York.
The boy tips his weathered cap to a well dressed lady as she passes by him.
What a kid. He's barely a day over twelve, but he's already a real charmer. His name's Jack Kelly.

New Kid, New Century • A Newsies Fanfic

26 parts Complete

It's been over a year since the strike has settled and the newsies haven't had any problems with Pulitzer since. But that's not to say that they didn't all have problems outside of work. Jack and Katherine were unhappy together. They didn't feel the love towards each other that they used to feel. Yet they were too scared to say something to one another. Crutchie wanted for his long-time crush to love him back, although he knew that would never happen. Still, one could dream. Davey and Les's father had been severely injured by an incident at work. He wasn't so lucky this time around and passed away due to blood loss. This drove their mother into a state of insanity, forcing Davey and Les to pack up their things and leave. They now live on the streets with their fellow newsies, struggling to support themselves just like every other newsie. Their lives were still pretty crappy and hopeless, but hey, they were still alive and that was what mattered. Then, a new kid shows up at the gates of The World and sends their lives into chaos once more.
