In the year 2180 North America has been unified under a monarchy.  In the Kingdom of Ocen there are many rules.  The most important one being that Citizens are not to step foot outside.  It is too dangerous.  The air near commoners is toxic and air purification is a luxury only Royals are granted.  But the Citizens lack nothing except freedom.  

Anything they wish for appears where and when needed.  Men and woman are assigned Spouses on their 21st birthday, specifically chosen for each other.  Young Prince Nikolai is on the verge of turning 21.  In order to take the throne he needs a Queen by his side.  Hence, The Choosing, which the King has set up for him to choose his wife.  There's a catch though, the Lady of his choosing must have been born on the same day as he was.  Regardless of her current status.  

Dakota is a Citizen who has always dreamed of stepping foot outside.  She has longed for the day she turns 21, as she has the chance of becoming the Spouse of an Official or a Chosen One. 100 years after a devastating war, leaders of each country decided that the only way to keep peace and civilization was to bring back the way of monarchy. Many countries abandoned the idea of a king and queen ruling over citizens thousands of years ago, but in a hopeful attempt to prevent something as catastrophic ever occurring again, countries came to an agreement. Nothing was a democracy anymore. The people had no say in anything that happens and were immediately killed if they protested against the idea of a monarchy. Princess Lydia Martin is heir to the throne, a soon-to-be queen of America. Her mother and father have been ruling for twenty five years and have to pass down the throne to their only child. Because Lydia is their only child, her safety is crucial. If any harm were to come upon Lydia, then the throne would be at threat and an amateur cousin could rule and America would be in grave danger since they’ve made enemies that would want nothing more than to see the king, queen,and country come crumbling down into pieces. Tensions between the countries are stronger than ever and countries need to be allied with each other since that is the only way to stay alive. Ever since Lydia was a child, her parents have had an arranged marriage for Lydia to wed the son of the king and queen of Great Britain, Prince Stiles. The two are now old enough to wed each other and rule together, but the current kings and queens aren’t ready to give up their throne just yet. With threats greater than ever and people who would gladly see their enemies head on a plate, Lydia and Stiles are tied together and must face the harsh realities of what being royal is really like. The future king and queen who are strangers to each other now have a duty to stay alive and become the rulers of two countries. (Characters rights go to Jeff Davis since he created them.
