When I was 14, I was sent to an RTC in Utah. Here is a real life and totally true account of some experiences that I had while I was there.
People in this story are real but I have changed their names because its an RTC and not everyone likes people to know that they went there.
Be warned, some parts of this are going to be kinda depressing. AND there is a lot of foul language in this. So read at your own discretion.
Anyways, this is my journey.

Her Breaking Point
He had rules for a reason, or thats what he said. I did something wrong I got punished. I spoke out of turn, I got punished. I looked at him or ate without permission, I got punished. Haven thats what they named me funny isn't it? Ironic really. They named me Haven because my mom would say I was her 'Safe Haven'. What a pile of shit that was. She left willingly, she didn't depart because of some tragic accident. My father didn't kill her. She left because she was a coward who didn't want kids. As soon as my older brother went to college she left. I knew she hated me. I was the product of her love with another man. A constant reminder that her life didn't work out the way it was planned. He who ever he was is a phantom in its own. A deep rooted fantasy never going to come true. My brother left, my mother left, my grandma ignored, and my father broke. They let me give up hope on escaping and then decided to play hero. But I haven't forgotten everything I went through. Guilt consumes my brother but I don't care, you don't get to leave and then buy a reprieve of trying to save someone who has been dead for years. Besides lets just be honest I reached my breaking point long ago.Concluida
The Boy in the Gray Hoodie
I was never meant to leave that room. I had spent my whole life in there, imagining what it was like on the outside. I looked forward to the day when I would finally be allowed to leave. But that day was never supposed to come. Until James decided to keep his promise. He had always been there, on the other side of the glass. Waiting. The experiment wasn't over. He was still waiting for me to change. But I didn't change. Not until that night. It was dark, and there was rain. The sound of the car engine was loud, but the crash was louder. In the crash, I became something different. I changed. But not for James. This new part of me emerged for one reason; to save her. I wasn't special, I wasn't a marine or a scientist sent here from earth to study Pandora, I was a behaviorist-some say behaviorists are scientists too; but the brain isn't made up of mathematics and hope, it's like the roots of trees. Forever speaking but unheard. I study people's brains and their behavior. I don't look at it with hope and faith. I'm nothing special, not really. When I was accepted to help with Project Pandora, I was exhilarated. This was my big break, something to get me out there. I never expected for it to spiral into my life unprofessionally-become personal, emotional. Have you ever met someone who alters the course of your life? For good or for bad, they've come in, given and taken, and then- BOOM! Your life was never the same. There's always a change, an altering of reality. When you meet those people, the reality that you've known your whole life is suddenly gone and a new one has taken its place. I think that's why we're still trying so desperately to get back to some sort of normalcy. Four years later and we're still on the ground, crawling, in search of the happiness that was lost that June. Summers will never be the same. Stolen Youth
I want to tell you all the story of my life. I went through a great deal of trauma from being bullied to being abused, neglected, and so on. I also hope my story will help others come out and speak about their experiences with being bullied, abused, etc. Please read with caution, as this story contains triggers such as self-harm, abuse, depression, bullying, etc. Please be respectful about my and others' stories who have also experienced the same things.
The Journey So Far
When I was 15 years of age, I was prepared to take my life. I watched an anime series called Neon Genesis Evangelion, and decided not to. 18 years later I wrote a book about everything that happened in-between. In my memoir/autobiography - The Journey So Far: A Transcultural Tale of Giant Robots, Abuse, Mental Illness, Spirituality and how Video Games and Anime Saved a Young Man's Life, I recount the story of how a young man faced with a myriad of crippling mental illnesses and a dysfunctional and abusive family kept afloat with the help of video games, anime, music, therapy and a host of other things. It is a tale of both tragedy and triumph - how I almost died on more than one occasion, but persevered and eventually found love, friendship, human connection and greater understanding of the world and its ways, as well as reconciliation with my abusers.
