Defection

Lyra Monroe has always known exactly where her life was headed.
She lives in a community run by government officials, where both boys and girls are taken away at 12 and forced to live away from their families for four years while they mature. At 16 Lyra is finally at the proper age to be a citizen and the Citizen's ball is where she will finally know what job she will perform, where she will live, and most importantly, who she will marry. When she is paired with Zane Demaris, a childhood friend, everything seems to be turning out perfectly. But just as Lyra and Zane are about to start their new life together their community is viciously attacked by a group of outsiders known as "Renegades" or Renny's. Lyra is gravely injured during the attack and taken hostage, along with Zane. But her life is spared by one of the outsiders, a young man named Tristan who begins to take a keen interest in her. Lyra soon begins to see that the Renegade's aren't the ones in the wrong, the leaders of the Community's have been keeping the Citizen's from knowing the truth about what really happened to the world they left behind hundreds of years ago and the closer that Lyra gets to Tristan, the more secrets become clear to her. She has to stop the Community leaders from getting their hands on what the Renegades have been keeping from them, even if it means giving up the life that would've kept her safe.
