The Dawson's have been living a normal life in Surrey, England. That is, until the British are involved in the Seventh Xhosa War. Charles Dawson is called upon to fight for the Queen. With their father gone, the four Dawson children are acting out, and their emotional mother, Jane, can't control them. So she writes her youngest sister, Sarah, for help. After a month, their house gets burnt down in a mysterious fire and they are taken in by Charles' brother, Daniel Dawson, the Duke of Surrey. Sarah gave up on the idea of love years ago when the boy she courted broke her heart. What happens when her views on love are changed when she meets the Duchess's older brother, Adam Holt? Adam Holt has nothing to live for. His hobbies include gambling, sleeping with random women, and hunting. While staying with his sister, he notices a beautiful, young governess. She is innocent in all ways and protective of the things she loves. What happens when these two meet? Would Adam change his ways? Could Sarah ever let herself trust another man?
