My mind shut off completely when I was younger. It was almost as if a light switch had been flickered on and off throughout that series of years. Sometimes it would flash on and blind me with a memory but the majority of the time it was dark. I had no recollection of the past, only nightmares for the future.
People say that everything happens for a reason. I was never entirely sure of that. Until one day, everything changed for me.
"My name is Sage Crawling. Tonight I will perform one act, and one act only. Tonight I will show the future of one person in this room. I have hand picked this person to be my little helper." At that moment he turned to me and smiled wide before returning his gaze to the crowd.
One word was all that he said. It was ominous, like a death warrant had just been signed.
"Abeyta."

"I know you're a virgin but have you never been touched?" He asked, sliding his other hand down onto her leg. "What makes you say that?" Kat breathed, bracing her hands on the counter. "What's your name?" he asked. I hesitated. "Dawn." He repeated it under his breath once, then again, slower, as if he was tasting it. "Dawn." The sound of it hit something in me that shouldn't have existed. But then his gaze hardened again. "You were with her," he said quietly, anger laced in his face as he brought up Mandy. "How do you know her?" "I don't," he said tightly. "But I know what her pack did," His words confused me, "she's a killer. I've been tracking her for weeks." My blood ran cold. "You're lying." "I wish I was," he murmured, stepping closer again. "She's dangerous, Dawn." "She's my friend." He flinched like I'd struck him. "She's the reason people are after you." "That doesn't make sense-" "She's the one they were following. But they found you too, and they changed their target. I don't know why." His eyes flicked over my face, his tone shifting. "Unless... unless they know what you are." I took a sharp step back, panic clawing at my throat. "You don't know anything about me." "No," he said quietly. "But I want to."
