An intellectual  young Japanese girl, Mana, goes to elementary school in Tokyo. When she returns home, she finds the grim truth her parents had been murdered earlier that day. She runs away traumatized by the event.

Then a man brings her into an orphanage where other young children live. Heartbroken, she isolates herself from the other children. Little did she know, an English boy soon to be enrolled was about to change her life forever.
