Francis Bonnefoy and Gilbert Beilschmidt are two lovers who are split on opposing sides of the second world war. While Francis remains in his home located in the Southern part of France, Gilbert is forced into joining the German forces alongside his younger brother. On both ends, they attempt to survive until the battle is over so that they may finally be together again.
