Francis Bonnefoy and Gilbert Beilschmidt are two lovers who are split on opposing sides of the second world war. While Francis remains in his home located in the Southern part of France, Gilbert is forced into joining the German forces alongside his younger brother. On both ends, they attempt to survive until the battle is over so that they may finally be together again.

However the world is on the verge of WW3. The only way it can be prevented is an arranged marriage between a one country from each side. The allies don't know what to do, everyone in allies has a long history of bad blood between the opposing side. Nobody wanted to go though with it. Matthew, also known as Canada, agreed. Prussia is a country the was presumed to be dissolved but, there is a small area of land that counts as Prussia's territory. He is the other country to be married.
