Before the nuclear war, everybody lived in harmony(nah just kidding!).  Four turtles are orphaned during the nuclear war by Oroku Saki because he killed their dad Splinter.  Saki wanted his daughter Karai to marry Splinter's eldest son, Leo but Splinter refused.  Now, the turtles are on their own for survival and depend on each other for survival.
