John has had a semi-normal life. He thought he was gay for a while, then he met the Schuylers and Lafayette and Hercules. They showed him he was demi. His Father kicked him out of his house because he was gay at 16. He lives alone and has to work to pay rent.
Peggy had a hard life with her sisters and her own problems. Being insecure about yourself is normal, but she's not insecure after everything that has happened.
