There is something wicked in the air. Legions move, demons plot, and the world shakes on its foundations. No living thing is safe as the flames that scorched the Wild Reach move ever closer and closer to the realms of men. The Princes of Iron seek one thing above all other things, an artifact without equal from a long forgotten age: the Desolate Throne. The only thing between them and the conquest they desire is a fragile alliance, a few staunch companions, and the Lady Penitent. One way or another, the world as it was known is ending.

When an army invades their home and enslaves of kills the population entirely the pair is thrust into a violent world they had never wanted to be part of. The three of them part from their remaining friends and neighbors, trying to draw the attention of the Crown away from them. Their travels bring them across the kingdom, meeting more friends along the way...and the woman that would steal Tarina's heart. She lets the group find peace for a time before they have to flee again. Now, with their group being followed by the High Lord's men, their only destination left will bring them away from everything they ever knew...if they can make it before they are captured.
