The small town of Lake Springs is highly prejudiced where nothing is hiding. The main character is Lisa Grand who is highly protected from her society by others but she finds out more about her life and the people in it as the people who protect her fail to do so. She will find out all that is wrong wit this town to the point of insanity but can't leave because something will prevent her from doing so. The book also follows Nick the police officer and the Salt bothers Cam and Sam who deal with internal problems. Will she leave or stay for the sake of her friends? Will Lisa get in too deep in this town and its mysteries? Will The Salt brother leave the town finally in search for help?
