I sigh with relief when I hear the sirens coming closer, and I look at Ethan, expecting him to be furious for this. But I see him smiling at me. I honestly can't imagine how this pleases him, and my confusion must be obvious.
"Yes, I know they are coming for me, my sweet." He says about the sirens. "I'm just glad I picked a fighter."
"You should be angry." I whisper. "I called the police." His lack of concern terrifies me. What does he have up his sleeve?
He only shrugs, "It was inevitable, and you weren't the first person to release my information. In fact, if they didn't come soon, I would have turned myself in."
"Why?"
"To get my name cleared of course. I can't have false accusations about me floating around." He murmurs to me, but I detect a threat in his words.
"B-but you are guilty. You did kill him."
He smiles and doesn't respond to that. "And after this is all over you will still be mine, my dear Melody." I shiver at his words. He kisses my forehead and turns me around so I am facing Violet's apartment. "Now go inside."
I feel freer as I walk back up the path, despite the fact that I have an ominous feeling that he will be back sooner than I expect.
