Astrix is 17 years old and lives in California with her mom. Her dad died when she was young, and Astrix can't speak because of her mom. Her mom was driven into depression when her dad died and is now drunk 24/7.
All Astrix wants to have is a normal life, but that can never happen. She is teased and bullied because of her speech condition, but there is one girl who is always there for Astrix. Her name is Molly. But when Astrix is just done with her life, she just wants to get out of the house as fast as she can for school every morning.
Astrix accidentally runs into the boy's bathroom one morning. Luckily, she gets to listen into a conversation about her. One boy is just be a typical boy, but the other one. He was nice and stood up for her like no boy has ever done that before. Then, she accidentally falls into him after tripping. He said his name was Nathan.
That night Astrix was attacked, but some mysterious boy shows up and saves her. Suddenly, Nathan starts showing up a lot more.
Who is this he? Is he somehow connected to the boy who saved her that night? What does he want?

~Thank you for the continued love for this series! I was 13 when I began this book, and am now taking the time to go back to completely rewrite it, and maybe just publish someday~ I'm 15 and my name is Astrix. Let's start with that. That seems like an easy thing to start with. Now, let me add in some other details. I live in a zombie apocalypse. Yeah, that's about as enjoyable as I can make it seem. Now let me add in something else. I'm wanted by the CIA for reasons that I don't even know, but I guess I will find out eventually. Maybe somewhere within my story I will figure it out. I'm well known as The Bad Ass for reasons that are kind of obvious once you meet me. Maybe that's why they're after me? Because I'm a Bad Ass? Nope, I doubt that. Well anyways, the answers are out there. Along with the answers to my past. The answer to life even. Maybe it really is 42 but I don't think it would hurt to start looking at one. So here we go. They don't about the ghost of a girl peaking around corners for her entire life because even home wasn't safe. They don't know about the fighter of steel and iron sucking on his bloody lip courtesy of the wars he battles in as nothing but a shadow. They don't know about the masked villain who would do anything to see the army they lead claim the throne They don't know about us. But they will, because we will rise. The world ended long ago, riddled with plague and zombies and destruction. But humanity survived, and humanity evolved.
