The year is 1756. Catherine Hale is the daughter of a once prosperious land owner. Drawn into debt his alcohol to addiction, the farm has fallen to ruin. Promised to a blacksmith's apprentice, it would seem Catherine is destined for a loveless, dull future. Though her ended is a well mannered young man, Catherine does not love him.

Then, one day, everything changes. A mysterious stranger sweeps into town and just like that, Catherine's future changes. But the stranger holds a dark secret...one that will either strength his bond with Catherine or severe it forever
