Even (as in even and odd) Light is an angel. She is a Halo, a type of Light Guardian. That means she protects the Light Souls until it is time for them to die, or become a new Light Guardian. In this case, Max is a Light Soul.

Luna's life isn't exactly 'normal' her parents are people you would call sorcerers. They don't belong in the normal human world but the world they once lived has been taken over by the Darkness and is unsafe for young children. When Luna turns 16 she is to cross to this world to not return until she decides to have kids of her own. As at 16 her abilities start showing which is also too dangerous because Luna herself isn't what her parents expected her to be.
