In the legend of the Phoenix, it ends its life in flames and is born again in embers. And so, the new life begins with the end.
Ezio Auditore returns to action 12 years following the conclusion of Assassin's Creed: Revelations. 
After four decades, Ezio's life as an assassin finally ended. It was never his choice to become an assassin, and his desire to stop wouldn't be enough to end it. The now grayed Ezio has lived in peace with his new family, until 12 years later he receives a visiter from far away lands, sparking events bringing an assassin Auditore back to action. 
Decades passed, but the Templars again quake in their boots as they learn the assassin Auditore has risen again.

Note: part of the story recounts the events of Assassin's Creed: Embers; however, that is not all and not where the story ends. Many parts of my own come before and after. Enjoy!
