When Daniel Elkins is killed, he leaves a letter for John Winchester saying that a hunter by the name of Eli Kane has the colt, a gun that can supposedly kill any supernatural creature, in their possession (along with the five remaining bullets).
Interested by the supposed power the colt has, John (with the help of Sam and Dean) tries to retrieve it from its current owner.
