Deep below the water's surface, in a city unknown to man, terror had inverted all the norms. An elder or even a young mer sprat could be potentially dangerous if the evil had found its way to control them. Even venturing outside the boundaries of the city wall was perilous. Nowhere was really safe. The evil behind the chaos was a race of beings called the Aritoves. They desired the golden flute, one of the most powerful magic on earth, which has been guarded by the Mer people for centuries. In the midst of the fears and sorrow, a prophecy came about that offered hope. The prophecy spoke of a hero that could bring the reigning nightmare to an end.

Aquella is a mer-princess of the River Breed and is also fingered to be the one spoken of in the prophecy. She is betrothed to the prince of the Sea Nesbits, one of the most desired males underwater. And yet she is unhappy and longs for an adventure outside of her expected roles. Will the princess be able to fulfill the desires of her hungry heart and at whose expense? Is it the water world or her prince? Or could it be both?

-- COMPLETED AND EDITING -- Nicole Shipton c. 2013 Teenage Michaela was a simple girl with an everyday life living in sunny California, excited about her sixteenth birthday party; a chance to get away from her strict parents for just a few hours. The quick surf Michaela and her sister Jess went on before the guests were due to arrive was meant to relax her, but to say it did the opposite would be an understatement. That surf turned Michaela's life around. Within a week, she had sprouted a tail, along with her sister. Michaela's parents weren't much help, leaving her and Jess to sort through the mess alone. When their mother and father finally took them to their home in the ocean, the two girls were kidnapped. One of the last remaining sea witches, a malicious woman named Krella, brought Michaela, Jess, and two other merpeople to the small town of Rocksworth. There, they were forced to do unmentionable and traumatizing things. Michaela doesn't know if she'll ever return to the coral castle she so briefly saw her parents call home, and if she does, what kind of life might that be?
