Chapter 1
The whole room around him was engulfed in flames. The air was putrid with the stench of
burning flesh and hair; he had no idea who's it was but the idea that someone nearby was burning terrified him. What had been a normal evening had turned into a nightmare. Tyrone looked around the hell that was his bedroom; the window was surrounded in flames and clearly was no exit.
A portion of the roof fell in and for a moment, snuffed out the flames in front of his door. Seizing this opportunity he bolted out of his bed and, lowering his shoulder he barreled through his weakened door like he would a linebacker during his football days in high school. The door gave way easier than he anticipated and he fell hard in the hall way. Quickly regaining his footing he looked around. The hall was no different than his room. Everything around him was burning. Seeing no other way Tyrone ran down the hall until he arrived at a pair of doors; one led to the kitchen and ultimately the back door, the other led to the living room and the front door. Without thinking he placed his entire hand on the doorknob leading to the living room and immediately regretted it; screaming in pain he looked at his hand, red welts were already forming. He swore loudly but his voice was drowned out by the roar of the flames around him. Ripping off his shirt he wrapped it around his throbbing hand in an attempt to ease the pain. Turning to the kitchen door he was more careful about reaching for it, placing his hand on the door itself. It felt warm but this warmth was not that of a blazing fire behind it. Yanking the door open he shot into the kitchen, pausing only to look behind at him to watch the roof over the hallway collapse. Had he been there any longer it would have killed him. Snapping out of his trance he turned around and pulled open the door. A figure in a black cloak, their face was hidden by a black hood met him at the doorstep.
"Hello Tyrone."
