Powers That Be is a look into a world of Superhumans. Some want to be heroes. Some become villains. Most just want to be left alone. What happens when one Super goes too far and exposes the secret of Superhumans to the whole world?

This is an introductory chapter; basically a treatment of what you might see in the first Powers That Be novel, entitled Renegade. Renegade is the story of a former US Special Forces soldier who lost life in the War on Terror - and found a new one as part of a clandestine organization that hunts down superpowered threats.

People never forget those that hurt them. People never forget those that made them feel helpless. Most of all, people never forget those that injected fear and helplessness altogether into them. Such is the likened story of the Degenerate Renegades, a species much like humans that wreaked havoc and war upon Earth fifty years before. Having seemingly multiplied and blended with humans after the war, to prevent another one, their use of powers is banned in each and every country across the globe. Anyone found in use is threatened by a prison sentence or imminent death. Fifty years later, a couple of teenagers disregard these laws and are captured on camera. The government instantly hunts them down but the question they fail to ask themselves is why a couple of teenagers would break the law. Is it pure ignorance, pure arrogance of them feeling they are more superior or is it intentional, but for a greater purpose? It is intentional but as the fugitives of the law, how do you explain to those persecuting you that you are doing it for the greater good of the Earth? The greater good that could save the lives of each inhabitant on Earth against powerful DRs like them, who simply want to kill and destroy like those before them of fifty years before!
