Kayla Bradley is her mother's love child from a failed relationship. Her mother has since settled down and married a self-proclaimed conservative man whom Kayla despises. Kayla disagrees largely with her mother's ideals and opinions which results in her desperate attempt to grow into a better person and to never become the person her mother is. This ultimately shapes Kayla's views on a lot of issues, mainly relationships with the opposite sex.

Kayla's dream is to be an independent and successful woman. Despite battling chronic depression and being cut off from her family, Kayla manages to make something of her life. She credits the source of her strength as stemming from the contempt she holds for her mother and the love and support she receives from her grandfather and close friends.
