When Kennedy Foster moves from Chicago to Minnesota in order to stamp her place at the Mayo Clinic the following summer, she never expected to run into an acquaintance along the way.
  
  Forest Brooks, a member of the Mayo Clinic is pursing his dreams in the medical field by working in cardio-thoracic and emergency medicine. Running into Kennedy at one of his favorite coffee shops, he soon befriends her.
  
  Together they both face the Mayo Clinic, and all that inhabit it. Not really knowing what's in store for them.

Instead, his cousin John, who is also in love with Kate, begins writing to her, pretending to be James. When Kate visits James, she is met with rudeness and cruelty, leaving her confused and heartbroken. In an attempt to escape her pain, Kate purchases an abandoned cabin in the woods. Upon discovering how James mistreated Kate, John sets out to find her. He eventually confesses to writing the letters, causing Kate to initially be angry with him. However, she eventually forgives John, who then proposes to her. Kate accepts his proposal, and the couple announces their engagement to their families.
