Leonie Linden is the cool-headed, Harley-Davidson riding owner of Insomnia Tattoo, a small tattoo studio popular with an impressive pool of customers from the LGBT community in San Francisco. Her regulars include a small-time transitioning nightclub DJ, a stoic underground MMA fighter as well as Leonie's bubbly underage sidekick. Over the years Leonie has formed a special bond with these customers-turned-friends over a common plight - insomnia. When the sun goes down, they are known as Club Insomnia, roaming the city to participate in impromptu activities and adventures.
Nessa Ross, a runaway bride from Scotland struggling with the emotional consequences of leaving her fiance at the altar, decides to seek refuge at her best friend's apartment in San Fran. One evening while bawling her eyes out at a quiet rooftop she discovers, she is startled by Leonie's unexpected appearance. The girl immediately presumes that Nessa is preparing to jump off the building and instead of panicking, Leonie handles the situation casually. Nessa becomes drawn to her new acquaintance's cool character and she soon finds herself in Leonie's world - an eye-opening (pun intended) world where sleep is for the weak.
