All you need to know about the Watty Award style contest that is just for retellings and stories heavily inspired by fairytales, folk tales, legends, myths, nursery rhymes, historical figures, and classic novels or plays! Fondly called the FCRAs for short.

To enter your retelling in our contest, take a look at our rules and then just tag your story #FCRAs2016

This year's theme for our special award category is People of the Sea!

But don't worry! There are plenty of other areas that a story could win in that has absolutely nothing to do with the special award category!

Five Star Reviews for Atlantis Academy: "Omg this book was amazing I couldn't put it down or stop reading. I carried it with me open on my phone while I did everything just to keep reading. I need more of all of this. Epic story, epic content, epic visuals, just epic. LOVE THIS!" "Once I got into this story, I did not stop reading it. This is a beautiful story about a very awkward girl who is riven with so much pain and angst and yet... this makes her who she is and shapes her into the person she will become. The world she finds herself awakened to is magical and yet filled with the all-too-familiar cliques and tribes of the very human people who inhabit it. One word to describe the story: beautiful!" "The story pulls you headlong to the end and leaves you wanting to shout "No! Not yet!" ...If there were 6 stars, I would have given it that." *** Humanity is one secret society away from extinction. The children of Atlantis use magic to keep us safe. If they make it through the Academy. Hi, I'm Lyric. And I'm kind of a mess. ADHD, that's me. I'm a high school drop-out, late everywhere I go, and one screw-up away from being homeless. I'm a loner, and I like it that way. Who needs friends when you have a Redwood forest nearby? Trees never bully me like the kids did at school. Or get drunk and throw things at my head. After my mom died, I figured life couldn't get much worse. I thought it might even get better. Ha. The universe has a great sense of humor. I should've listened to the rumors about evil spirits. About the angry, ancient magical creatures haunting our small Oregon Coast town. But did I? No. That was my first mistake. And it might be my last. 'Cause now I'm in a battle for my life. A whole new world has opened up... a magical world I don't understand. And the blood in my veins says I belong here. But I have to prove myself to save myself. And when have I ever done that?

[Wattys2018 Shortlist] [Bootcamp Mentorship Mentee 2020] [Insidious Awards - 1st place/Action/Adventure] "Squinty, I... Help me! Please! You have to help me!" Squinty huffed at him as the horse might snort at an annoying fly it couldn't get rid of. "A...a... an apple," he stammered. "I just... stole an apple!" ---- When water is controlled by those in power, even a mere apple can be a catalyst. For Squinty, it was the start of everything. Finding Grizzly. Losing Roko. Becoming a Vigil. Discovering she had the power to become invisible. For Nalina, the threat of a new Water War was even closer to home; her beloved brother was the one initiating it. To Drian, water formed the core of his belief system, defined who was - and was not - worthy, and justified the treatment of the underground-dwelling Wellers. An orphan girl, determined to do what was right. A princess, petitioning for peace. An abbot, torn between his religion, and his experience. Each with an Etching, a unique power that surely makes them special; a tie to something more, something extra, something beyond the Squareworld. ABOUT FAIRIES, UNICORN AND A SWAN IN THE STARS by yaleskave
1 part Complete Mature
About Fairies, Unicorns, and a Swan in the Stars offers a collection of stories that combine magical realism with deeply emotional, human experiences. What makes these stories so unique is how they weave together fantastical elements-unicorns, nereids, fairies-with profound themes of love, grief, and courage. Each tale presents characters who are facing a moment of transformation, not just in their lives but in their very souls. In The Kingdom of Unicorns, the idea of life after death becomes a journey to a magical realm, where the mythical creatures of childhood stories offer solace and redemption. It's a bittersweet reflection on belief and wonder, especially in times of deep loss. February 1919 shifts the tone to something darker, but equally captivating. The story doesn't shy away from the brutality of human nature, yet through the nereid, it brings in an ethereal beauty that contrasts with the violent reality. David's struggle to act against fear and corruption, and his final moment of bravery, makes the story gripping-it's not just about survival, but about moral reckoning. The Star Fairy is perhaps the most enchanting, with its luminous river and a fairy who crafts stars from human sorrow. The imagery is stunning, and the journey of Roy as he learns to overcome his fears and face his grief is heartwarming. The magic here isn't just in the stars, but in the emotional depth of the story. It's a tale that reminds us how even in the darkest moments, there is beauty to be found. Each story offers a blend of magic, mystery, and heartfelt emotion that draws you in. They are as much about the magical worlds they create as they are about the inner lives of their characters, making the collection deeply immersive and emotionally satisfying.
