Because of his father, Jake had always been expected to be someone great, perhaps another Great Magician, but he wasn't interested in being one at all, let alone the Great. At his twenty-first year of age, magicians from all over the world gathered just to witness him taking his preliminary test in getting into the Higher School of Magic, Caelurra. However, he failed the test because he casted a spell that he wasn't supposed to know at his age to protect himself from a monster, one that no one had ever seen before. That marked the very end of his magician's life, but what Jake didn't know was, it marked the very beginning of his father's legacy.

Lucian Jefferson's dad went missing the day after his first birthday, leaving him to discover a whole new world of magical spells. Although involved in a whirlwind of magic, he still finds himself focusing on the more human aspects of his life: trying to find any remnant of his father, battling with his sexuality, and trying to convince his mom to leave the man who physically abused both of them for years.
