[Wattpad Featured Story: Fantasy Hidden Gems] When we were children they whispered about beasts that hid amongst the shifting dunes, dark things with sharp teeth and loud howls and an insatiable thirst. Animals that gutted their prey and left intestines rotting in the sun and bones sprawled out across dried riverbeds. We listened with rapt attention and shivered despite the searing desert heat. But I'm not a child anymore, and I know better. The sand-dusted coyotes, the sleepy vipers-they're just animals, dumb and slow. I've met the real beast of the dunes, and he's nothing like they say. He wears the skin of a man, and the silks of a noble, and spins lies with a silver tongue sharp enough to make the earth bleed... And he holds my life in his blood-stained hands.

I sense him before I see him but carry on with folding the washing. "I see you found me." I say loud enough for him to hear. I feel him walking towards me. I can tell who its just by looking at their uniform. We all get given a unique uniform that is made for us. I carry on folding the washing whilst waiting for his reply. "We need you to come in." He replies nochantly. I smile and turn around flicking off his hood. "And what do I need to come in for? Brother." I ask, emphasising on brother. His face remains emotionless but his eyes betray him. They are filled with sadness, anger and betrayal. "You know why otherwise you wouldn't have let us find you." He replies. My smile widens. "You know me so well. I had my suspicions but I want to here it directly." I tell him. He growls at me, "They're back. Okay. They are all back." -------------------------------------- Do you ever wish that life was simple? That you could live it normally? I do. I was. But I'll never live it normally.
